BEHIND THE KIT
Minneapolis > Iowa City > Chicago > Oakland > Minneapolis
Ken Goldman started formal percussion studies in Iowa City. After focusing on classical music at Northwestern University’s School of Music, he turned to drum set and continued his studies with wonderful musicians including Hamid Drake (Don Cherry, Herbie Hancock), Mark Walker (Oregon, Paquito D'Rivera), Dave King (The Bad Plus, Happy Apple), and Carter McLean (The Lion King, Charlie Hunter) but it's his first teacher, Matt Wilson (Trip Shakespeare, Twilight Hours, Matt Wilson & His Orchestra) that remains his North Star.
He recorded with several bands while living in Oakland and toured with New Grass band Sugarbeat. Performance highlights include the Telluride Bluegrass Festival with Tony Furtado and Matt Flinner, CBGB with Peter Stuart and playing the annual Replacements Tribute at First Avenue.
Currently, he's lives in Minneapolis and plays with several local musicians and bands including Birch Trio, Steve Katz and the Hungry Ghosts, The Wreck and American Pleasure Dome. He can also be heard on several works from Documentary Songwriters based in Rockport Maine.
